Transition at Instituto

Dear Friends of Instituto,

Each milestone and success the organization achieves is thanks to partners like yourself who have leveraged your resources and expertise to bring about change in our community. On behalf of our organization, please know that we are filled with gratitude and appreciation for your ongoing support of or organization and the families we serve.

Juan Salgado has led our organization through an extraordinary period of growth and achievement while embodying the Instituto Spirit. The impact he has had on our organization and our broader community is immeasurable. We are eternally grateful for his longstanding dedication to Instituto’s mission and are delighted for him and our city as he transitions to lead Chicago’s largest adult serving educational institution. We know students, families, and communities across our city will benefit greatly from having Juan serve as Chancellor of City Colleges of Chicago with the same mission-orientation with which he has led Instituto.

Today, we look to Instituto’s next chapter in a long history of community service building education and career opportunities. We are grateful for the strength and stability of Instituto’s dedicated staff, its students, and its Board of Directors who are fully prepared to steer the organization through this transition as we look for an extraordinary successor to lead our organization.

We are excited to have Alejandra Garza step into the role of Interim President and CEO of Instituto during this time. Alex has been a leader in Chicago’s Latino community, particularly through her tenure on the Instituto Board of Directors for the past twenty years. During this time, she has held many key leadership positions including Board President, Treasurer, and Governance Committee Chair. While under her leadership Instituto established a new strategic direction, including hiring Juan Salgado, launching flagship programs such as Carreras en Salud and the Instituto Health Career Sciences Academy, as well as strengthening the organization’s brand and impact in the community. We are confident that she is the best person to lead our organization and work with its leaders and partners through this moment.

This year marks Instituto’s 40th Anniversary and at this moment, we reflect on the immense impact our organization has had both locally and nationally over the past four decades. We are confident in our ability to build on this legacy and are grateful for your support as we continue to serve our vibrant community.

Many thanks,

Andrea Sáenz, Instituto Board Chair, and the Instituto Board of Directors
