Interim President and CEO
Alejandra Garza has been a leader in Chicago’s Latino immigrant community particularly with Instituto del Progreso Latino (Instituto). Currently, she is the Interim President and CEO of Instituto while a search is being conducted to fill that position. During over twenty years serving Instituto, Alejandra has held many key leadership positions on the Instituto Board including Board President, Treasurer, and Governance Committee Chair. While under her leadership Instituto, established new strategic direction including launching flagship programs such as Carreras en Salud, and the Instituto Health Career Sciences Academy, as well as strengthening the organization’s brand and impact in the community and nationally.
Alex is founder and owner of AGG Consulting, a successful strategic marketing firm that provides services to businesses and non-profits. Dedicated to helping organizations connect with all their stakeholders, Alejandra has built a distinguished career working in both the corporate and the non-profit world providing her with a unique understanding of how to create and implement successful business and marketing strategies within both sectors.
In addition to serving as Instituto’s President and CEO Alejandra currently serves on the Illinois Medical District Commission, Metropolitan Planning Commission’s Sustainable Growth Committee, Sinai Health Systems Board, University of Chicago, Booth School of Business’ Civic Scholar Committee and University of Illinois at Chicago, Liberal Arts & Science, Board of Visitors. Ms. Garza has been featured in Latina Style, Hispanic Business Magazine, VOXXI New Media, Diversity Journal and NegociosNow.
Alejandra received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from University of Illinois at Chicago, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago and a certificate in Non-Profit Governance from Harvard’s Business School Executive Program.
Vice President of Education and Programs
Dr. Ricardo Estrada is Vice President of Education and Programs at Instituto del Progreso Latino, a position he has held for 10 years. His responsibilities include developing and evaluating career pathways and education programs at the organization. He has over 35 years of higher education experience at Chicago-area community colleges as well as in the private education sector. During this time, he developed several adult education, vocational, and workforce development models that have enabled non-traditional students to advance in their careers. He is a frequent speaker at local, state, and national workforce and education conferences. Dr. Estrada’s experience in curriculum and program development has qualified him as a member of the U.S. Department of Education Office of Vocational and Adult Education’s Career Pathway Panel of Experts. Dr. Estrada holds an EdD from National Louis University and an MBA from North Park University.
Chief Financial Officer
Miguel Tovar leads Instituto del Progreso Latino‘s Accounting / Finance Department as Chief Financial Officer. Miguel has over 22 years of accounting / finance experience, from start-ups to multi-million dollar corporations. He brings superior leadership and critical thinking to Instituto in all areas of the organization.
With a strong knowledge of both cash and accrual accounting systems, Miguel has been responsible for multi-fund budgets ranging from $10 million to $50 million. He has experience in all aspects of budgeting, financial forecasting, resource allocation, fund management, accounting, and control.
Miguel Tovar holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
