Instituto Justice and Leadership Academy's (IJLA) is a restorative learning community that engages students, through praxis, to strive for self-actualization. With an innovative approach, IJLA prepares ALL students for college and career success employing the next generation of revolutionary scholars. IJLA invigorates hope and restores students' hearts and minds to reclaim their education, graduate, and transform into agents of change. IJLA provides a unique and rigorous education program to reach out-of-school youth in Chicago, allowing them the opportunity to reinvest in their future.
IJLA students take responsibility for their education as they learn the meaning of being physically, emotionally, and socially healthy. We look to our students to help shape an educational environment where they can feel safe, supported, and successful. Student voice is an important part of every decision, ranging from the school technology policy to our academic projects. IJLA's competency-based curriculum takes an interdisciplinary approach to ensure students build the skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century. In addition, IJLA encourages self-exploration and social justice as part of its curriculum to give students further agency and ownership over their education.
IJLA accepts applications at any time. In order to enroll, students must:
- Be eligible for grades 9-12
- Reside in Chicago
- Be ready to receive support for reaching your goals

Instituo Lottery Dates and Guidelines
Instituto Justice & Leadership Academy (IJLA) is open to any student who resides within the City of Chicago. We admit students by blind lottery, not based on grades, test scores or proximity. Students must be between the ages of 16-21 years old.
Application Available – Thursday, October 1, 2020
Application Due Date – Friday, March 15, 2021
School Lottery Date – Monday, March 22, 2021
